Air compressors are used in a variety of industries to provide compressed and pressurized air for many applications. These devices are now even used to power construction and manufacturing equipment and to drive control system valves; earlier compressors were much less versatile. The advent of air compressors dates back thousands of years.

Don’t Compress the Space of Your Compressor

A commonly overlooked aspect of air compressor installation is the location. In many instances, the space is too small and not capable of providing the compressor its much-needed standard temperature rating. To function properly and provide clean air, compressors must be housed in an amply-spaced area—mostly for the fact that the compressor needs to have sufficient air intake.

Many users of compressed air systems don’t fully realize the implications of disregarding condensate drains. Though compressed air condensate is usually just condensed water, it may contain trace amounts of oil, particulate matter, and other contaminants—any of which can be detrimental to equipment and processes.

To avoid unnecessary maintenance and ensure optimal productivity in your system, you need to use condensate drains on your air receiver tanks, aftercoolers, dryers, filters, and other essential components. Using these devices will ensure the containments are removed from your system ensuring a longer operational life of your equipment.

Compressed Air Systems, Inc. has been an industry mainstay for over 50 years, providing customers with high-quality compressor, vacuum, and blower systems, as well as professional in-house and field services. Our company started with just five people, but we currently have over 40 compressed air experts on the team; we attribute much of the company’s growth to our dedication to customer service.

One method we utilize to support our customers is to educate them on air compressors and the benefits they provide to numerous industrial processes—our annual Compressed Air Seminars are the perfect platform to convey this information.

Our latest seminar—hosted in association with Kaeser Compressors, Inc.—took place on Oct. 15 at the Sheraton Hotel, just minutes away from our Tampa, FL. Headquarters and several of our attendees. The seminar had a great turnout: about 30 of our customers were in attendance, in addition to various industry professionals, the entire Compressed Air Systems sales staff, and our incredible guest speakers Roy Stuhlman and Joe D’Orazio.

On The Use of Air Compressors with Food Grade Oil/Lubricants

Posted by Kyle Randall

Aug 28, 2014 9:42:00 AM

Use of air compressors and pneumatic tools is widespread within the food processing industry. They are used in a variety of applications including controlling devices used in the processing operation (such as opening or closing a pneumatic valve on a reject device), handling the product and or packaging (ingredients handling and product transfers), or come into contact with a surface that contacts the product.

As such, operating air compressors in a food grade environment carries a high concern for contamination. When ambient air is compressed, the contaminants within the air become concentrated. Pollutants such as dirt, rust, pollen, water vapor are rampant in work environments.

Another primary source of contamination is the compressor itself and its oil, lubricants and hydrocarbons. In some cases it can be more appropriate to use a more expensive oil-free air compressor to alleviate this risk. However, if proper precautions are taken, an oil/lubricant type air compressor can be successfully purposed, reducing the cost of the system.

Back in early April, Compressed Air Systems got an unusual call from WyoTech – the motorcycle mechanic’s technical school. They were interested in renting an air compressor for an upcoming project. WyoTech was providing equipment and marketing support for an all-female bike-building team to benefit the H.E.R. project. Created by Gina Woods, the 15-year radio talk show host of Open Road Radio, H.E.R is a way to recognize women veterans and raise funds for The National Women Veterans Association of America (NWVAA). H.E.R. stands for Honor, Encourage, and Respect.

Gina Woods of XX Chromes All Women Bike Build in Chicago is the consummate motorcycle pro.  The idea was for Gina and her crew to a build a military-themed bike in five days at Bruce Rossmeyer’s Harley Davidson during 2014 Bike Week. This motorcycle event and rally held annually in Daytona Beach, Florida is a terrific venue to raise awareness and money for a unique project like H.E.R. Each year, approximately 500,000 people make their way to the 10-day event.
